Chorus is a Disability Confident employer

We are proud to announce that we have achieved the Disability Confident Employer status, a recognition of our commitment to creating an inclusive workplace that values diversity and promotes equality.

The Disability Confident Employer scheme is a voluntary initiative that helps employers “think differently about disability and take action to improve how they recruit, retain and develop disabled people”.

This initiative was driven by our Chorus ED&I committee, setup and run by employees to promote ED&I initiatives. This forms part of our wider Chorus CSR commitment – where we want to make Chorus an inclusive workplace where everyone can be themselves and support the wider community and environment to make a positive impact.

By becoming a Disability Confident Employer, we have joined a community that encourages employers to be more inclusive—to ensure they are giving equal opportunities to the vast array of disabled talent seeking employment or already working for the business.

“We’re delighted to be a Disability Confident Employer. Ensuring we are providing equal opportunities and embracing diversity and inclusion is a key focus for our business, and supporting people with disabilities is absolutely crucial to this. We hope that being part of this initiative will encourage disabled people to work for Chorus, safe in the knowledge that they will be joining a supportive and open workplace where everyone is treated as equals with respect”.

Nicola Saner, Managing Director, Chorus

As a Disability Confident Employer, we’ve had to demonstrate that we’re taking actions which are inclusive of disabilities when recruiting new people for our business, and for how we treat and develop employees.

Getting the right people

When hiring new talent, some actions we have taken to ensure a fair and inclusive process for people with disabilities include:

  • Actively attracting and recruiting disabled people to help fill opportunities
  • Providing a fully inclusive and accessible recruitment process
  • Offering an interview to disabled people who meet the minimum criteria for the job
  • Being flexible when assessing people so disabled job applicants have the best opportunity to demonstrate that they can do the job
  • Proactively offering and making reasonable adjustments as required

Keeping and developing our people

To ensure we’re doing everything we can to keep and develop our disabled employees, we’re taking a number actions, including:

  • Promoting a culture of being Disability Confident
  • Supporting employees to manage their disabilities or health conditions
  • Ensuring there are no barriers to the development and progression of disabled staff
  • Valuing and listening to feedback from disabled and all staff
  • Regularly reviewing our commitments and how we can continue to improve

We are proud to be a Disability Confident employer and we look forward to continuing our journey of increasing inclusivity and diversity. We believe that by being Disability Confident, we can help our make a positive societal impact, promote other employers to do the same, and ultimately to give everyone the equal opportunity to pursue their career of choice.
