Priva Subject Rights Requests is being retired in May 2026

Microsoft Priva Subject Rights Request (SRR) is being retired. From 9th May all users are recommended to instead use Purview eDiscovery instead of Priva Subject Rights Request. Whilst this change is coming soon, Microsoft have not shared much further information with only an official message being shown last week when logging into the Priva portal stating “”Beginning May 9, 2026, Priva Subject Rights Requests (SRR) will be supported through Microsoft Purview eDiscovery (Premium).”

What is Priva Subject Rights Request?

Priva Subject Rights Request (SRR) is a Microsoft solution designed to help organisations respond to Subject Rights Requests (SRRs), more commonly known as Subject Access Requests (SARs). This is where an individual requests access to all personal data that an organisations holds about them. For many organisations, managing SARs can be time-consuming, complex and resource-intensive.

What does this mean for Priva customers?

For organisations using Microsoft Priva SRR, any Subject Access Requests will have to be done through Purview eDiscovery from 9th May, which does not give much time for the change. The advanced capabilities in Purview eDiscovery are available to organisations with Microsoft 365 E5 licences. Organisations on other Business or Enterprise tiers will need to purchase add-on licences before using these capabilities.

Priva Privacy Risk Management is still available, however Microsoft do not promote this heavily and with the retirement of Priva SRR it does suggest that this could also be retired in the future.
